Freebie

In a couple of hours, the Amazon Kindle version of my book MURDER IN PALM BEACH: The Homicide That Never Died, will be available FREE for all the rest of Monday, Oct. 10. There are two editions of the book, and I’m talking about the Second Edition. The novel is closely based on a real murder that happened in the posh, ocean-side town in 1976.

All you have to do to get a Kindle copy at no charge is copy http://tinyurl.com/he5g5sm in your browser, and when the book comes up, click on $0.00 in small print (under, but separate from, the larger Kindle Unlimited tab). That will, in Internet parlance, download the book to your device.

Here’s a brief synopsis:

Rodger Kriger answers the doorbell at his Palm Beach home one night in 1976, and is hit by a fatal shotgun blast. An ambitious prosecutor despises hoodlum Mitt Hecher, and gets him indicted. At Hecher’s trial, fellow jail inmates testify that he confessed. He is convicted and sentenced to the brutal Raiford prison. As numerous appeals for a new trial fail, his wife contracts a deadly disease. Investigators pursue many scenarios. Was Hecher innocent, and if so, who did it? Those are the questions seeking answers in this mystery tale of redemption, one that explores issues of justice and power. In the thin guise of fiction, it contains shocking new information never before made public.

The book has climbed in the Amazon rankings lately, and has garnered outstanding reviews. One said it “could easily rival the likes of John Grisham and Richard Montanari.” Another said “crime fiction may just have a new star in Bob Brink” (huh, you talkin’ about me?).  And then there was the guy who insisted Murder in Palm Beach was “one of the greatest whodunits I’ve read in many years.” A bunch of similar encomiums emanated from the pens of readers, but you get the idea; I’ll spare you any further boasting. Hey, I gotta make you want to read it.

By the way, as you’ll see, it’s also available in paperback. You want the Second Edition. With two editions and both the Kindle and paperback formats available, Amazon has trouble getting it all straight. The latest is: They split the reviews for the two editions in two, assigning 30 to each, and giving them a 3.7-star average rating. But that’s not correct: There are 58 reviews total, and they have a 4.1-star rating. Also, they put the Second Edition paperback under the category of British Detectives. Say what? You’d have to search pretty hard, with one of those Sherlock Holmes magnifying glasses, to find a British detective in my novel – ’cause there ain’t any.

But I digress. Get the Kindle version of MURDER IN PALM BEACH: The Homicide That Never Died for FREE on Tuesday, Sept. 20, and enjoy.
